Alex Wong was born on November 13th, 1986 in Edmonton Alberta, Canada. He began to dance when he was seven years old and trained primarily in Tap and Jazz. He started his ballet studies with the Goh Ballet Academy in Vancouver, Canada. Back in 2000, Alex won two Junior World Titles in Tap and Showdance! He was also awarded with the Royal Academy of Dancing Solo Seal and won the Audience Choice Award and was a Bronze Medallist in the 2003 Genee International Ballet Competition. In 2004, he became the first Canadian to win the Prix de Lausanne competition in Switzerland, and later that year joined the American Ballet Theatre Studio Company. In 2005, Alex danced briefly with the American Ballet Theatre before joining the Miami City Ballet. Then, in early 2007, Alex was promoted to rank soloist at MCB! In 2009, Alex audition for So You Think You Can Dance, he breezed through the competition and was in the final Top 20. Unfortunately, due to his contract with the Miami City Ballet, he was forced to leave the competition. In 2010 Alex was offered again another promotion to be principal dancer at MCB but turned it down to re-audition for SYTYCD. He made the Top 10 list of contestants for season seven! Unfortunately, on the fourth week of the season, Alex injured himself during rehearsal by snapping his Achilles tendon, which had taken him out for the rest of the season. After his horrid loss, he received surgery in Los Angeles and was given a timeframe of a year to fully recover from his serious injury. Following the surgery, Alex signed with Bloc Talent Agency in New York. From this, he booked plenty of commercials, print jobs and one of his first television debuts since his time on SYTYCD. From landing jobs and new opportunities, Alex was asked to re-join SYTYCD as an All-Star but was sidelined with another Achilles injury which unfortunately made him withdraw from the show. While in recovery, Alex wrote a song and actually audition for American Idol where he made it to the semi final Hollywood rounds. He also made his Broadway debut as "Sniper" in the original Broadway cast of Disney's musical Newsies. From his Broadway debut, he landed more roles on popular tv shows and films. Today, Alex still dances, headlines at dance conventions and posts plenty of great content on his social media. You can check his instagram out! It's @alexdwong . Also, take a look at one of the dances he did on SYTYCD with Twitch!

Thanks for tuning in this week Dancers! Don't forget to come back next week for another Friday Feature and to see any new updates for what's going on in our community!
